HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR SAREES
A saree is more than just a garment; it is a treasured piece of craftsmanship that deserves thoughtful care. Improper washing, drying or storage can affect its colour, texture and delicate embellishments. Follow these simple care guidelines to preserve the beauty of your sarees for years to come
Sequins and Beaded Sarees
Sequins and beads add exceptional beauty and detail to a saree, but their delicate embellishments require extra care to maintain their finish and prevent damage.
Professional cleaning is recommended. Always inform the cleaner about the sequins, beads, embroidery and any delicate fabric used in the saree.
Avoid machine-washing and soaking. Water, agitation and unsuitable detergents may loosen embellishments, damage threads or affect their finish.
Treat stains with care. Do not rub, scrub or apply stain removers directly to embellished areas. Consult a professional cleaner for stain removal.
Handle gently. Avoid pulling, stretching or dragging the saree, as sequins and beads may catch on jewellery, nails or rough surfaces.
Store with the embellishments protected. Place the saree in a soft, breathable muslin cover. If needed, use acid-free tissue between heavily embellished folds to reduce friction.
Avoid hanging for long periods. Heavy beadwork and sequins can put stress on the fabric and stitching. Fold the saree carefully, supporting the embellished sections.
Keep away from moisture and heat. Humidity may affect certain beads, metallic finishes and threads. Store the saree in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Check before wearing. Gently inspect the saree for loose beads, sequins or threads and have any repairs done by a skilled professional.
A little care goes a long way. With the right cleaning and storage, your treasured sarees can retain their beauty, craftsmanship and elegance for many years.
